About Me

INTRODUCING... ASHLEY GUILE!!!

Hello all!  A little bit about myself.  I was born in Oregon in June 1988 and lived there until the end of my kindergarden year of school.  My family and I moved to Utah for my dad's job just before I started first grade, where we lived for 3 years before moving again.  We moved to Arizona the summer before I entered 4th grade and remained there until the summer of 2005 [just before I started my senior year of highschool :( ].  I moved to San Marcos, California in June of 2005, where I completed my senior year of high school and graduated in 2006 as the first graduating class of Mission Hills High School.  After I graduated, I attended Palomar Community College in the hopes of persuing a Psychology Degree to become a Criminal Psychologist.   That idea did not last, and after 3 semesters and the realization that I would need a PhD, I changed my major to Liberal Studies and decided to fulfill the long time dream of becoming a teacher.  I transferred to CSUSM in August 2010 to finish my Junior and Senior year and to hopefully enroll in the Credential Program to become an Elementary School Teacher.  I will graduate this May with my Bachelor's Degree and plan to continue on to the Credential Program in August.  I can't wait!!! :)
My adorable nephew Nicholas... he loves to play in boxes...

When it comes to technology, I can't say that I am completely tech savy, but I can also say that I am not technology illiterate.  I can text, send pictures, log onto facebook, play angry birds, etc. from my phone, however I have not become as creative and inventive as I would like on my Droid cell phone (that I will soon replace with the iphone).  I own a Dell laptop but really only use it for school work and papers and have not gotten as proficient with it as I'm sure I could be.  I envy the people who own Mac Books and can create movies and films and advertisements like it is no big deal.  I am comfortable with computers and just need a small intstructional walk through to become comfortable with systems I haven't used before.  I am excited to use the Mac computers at school and am interested and excited to see how I fair at their differences from my PC.

The COE Mission Statement speaks to me because I believe that education is extremely important and I strongly believe that everyone is entitled to the same equity of education and that having a diverse educational environment promotes a stronger, more educated, and more enlightening experience.  I think that continuing training, education, and updating teaching practices provides a more in depth, structured, and culturally enriching atmosphere for both teachers and children, and I believe a more culturally aware future is a brighter one.  To be honest, I had not read the COE Mission Statement when I applied to CSUSM.  I had heard from multiple places that the Credential Program at CSUSM is highly rated and extensive and helps prepare and educate future teachers with promising future careers.  When I heard that the Credential Program is one of the best in the state, and that the certifications offered are not offered in all colleges, I knew that I wanted to attend CSUSM.  I want to ensure that I am as prepared as possible before I enter a classroom so that I can ensure the success of the students in my classroom.  I don't want to be one of those teachers that gives the impression that they don't really care about their job or their students; I do care and I want to make a positive difference on the children that enter my classroom.  From the past graduates of the Credential Program that I have spoken to, I believe that I will get that training here at CSUSM. :) :)

  4. Nice to meet you. I to need some instruction on programs and other computer tools. I have just enough tech-know-how to enjoy my hobbies.

  6. You most definitely will not regret making the switch over from the Droid to the iPhone. I'm not quite sure how I survived without mine for so long.

I think it would have been exciting to become a Criminal Profiler, but I totally understand not wanting to be in school for the next decade or so. Perhaps you're background in Psychology will help when wrangling your future classroom.

  7. Hello Ashley! It is great that you are pursing your life long dream of becoming an elementary educator. Similar to your experience, when I first entered CSUSM I was determined to pursue a psychology degree but then came to the realization that working with students was what I really wanted to do, thus, I decided to change my major to liberal studies. I must say that the ideas that you present about the CSUSM Mission Statement are great. I agree with you 100% that making our students more culturally aware is the first step to changing our society for the better.
